Stefanie Bauer – Project Manager and Advisor Sustainable Economic Development India, GIZ


Stefanie Bauer is a Technical Advisor for Private Sector Development at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in India, specialized on promotion of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) and on innovation promotion. Since 2010 she is heading a project component of bilateral technical cooperation between India and Germany on MSME financing and development with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) as an implementation partner. Together with its partners, the project aims to improve the service environment for MSME, improving access to finance and other support services. Currently, Stefanie is leading a new initiative within GIZ on “Responsible Enterprise Finance”, aiming to strengthen the integration of environmental, social and governance concerns in lending and investment decision making of financial institutions. Strengthening the eco-system for small and growing businesses that aim to create social and environmental impact, so called “social enterprises”, is one of the focus areas of this new GIZ initiative. The project aims at increasing access to capital for social enterprises as well as supporting the businesses with non-financial support and capacity building.

Previously Stefanie worked as Technical Advisor to the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development on topics related to Private Sector Development, with a specific focus on strengthening innovation systems. She has authored or co-authored several publications on issues related to technical cooperation in the field of private sector development. She is an Economics and Social Sciences graduate from London School of Economics and Political Science, UK and University of Bayreuth, Germany. She has over 6 years of international work experiences in the field of private sector development in various countries in Africa, including Ghana and Uganda.
