Pratima Joshi – Founding Member, Shelter Associates


Pratima Joshi is an Architect and one of the founding members of the NGO Shelter Associates (SA). Within Shelter, Pratima has worked intensively on projects ranging from actual implementation of housing and sanitation projects, to poverty mapping and related research projects. In 2009 Google Earth recognized her efforts under their ‘Google Earth Hero’ series and made a short film, which focused on Shelter Associates efforts in the use of Google Earth for a social cause.

Receiving the Aga Khan Scholarship to pursue her Masters from University College London, Pratima went on to become a 2006 recipient of the global ‘Ashoka’ Fellowship in recognition of her work as a Social Entrepreneur. Pratima has been featured in several national and international journals and magazines, and has also been invited to speak at several prestigious international forums. She was the only Indian architect to be invited to speak at the 24th World Congress of architects held in Tokyo in 2011.
